First, the 5 Man Counter-Strike tournament will have a CASH PRIZE!
Section 1. General Information
1.1 Map List - Here are the only maps that will be allowed in the Counter-Strike tournament. Many people ask why they are only DIFFUSE maps. This is the standard that's been adopted by pretty much everyone, including the CPL. Other map styles like escape, and hostage rescue, give too much power to one side. Diffuse makes both teams work, one team tries to plant, the other side tries to stop them, simple. With hostage rescues, terrorists are prone to camp with their hostages making for a very boring and unfair match.

1.2 Map Randomization - Maps will be randomized at the party by our tournament management software. Once randomized, these maps will correspond to the current round in the tournament; meaning for that round in the tournament ALL teams playing will play that map, no exceptions.
1.3 Counter-Strike Version - We will be playing the current version of Counter-Strike which is 1.6, whether a hacked version of the true Valve Steam version.
1.4 Tournament Format - The tournament will be DOUBLE ELIMINATION unless we have some insane abundance of teams. Meaning we will do everything possible to make this tournament DOUBLE ELIMINATION, but if 30 teams show up somehow, that would make it impossible to do for a 12 hour lanparty. This is another variable that comes into play only after we see what is happening at the lanparty.
1.5 Tournament Time - The tournament will start on time at ~9:00PM so be to the lanparty at 7:00PM, which is on time!
1.6 NO CHEATING - This is the most important rule. We will be running the latest version of CS Guard on ALL the servers to try and prevent it as much as we can. We have the right to stand behind your back and watch you play in the tournament, and don't be surprised if this happens. If we suspect you of cheating, we have the right to kick you out of the tournament, meaning your team goes on without you. If we suspect an entire team of cheating, we have the right to kick your entire team out of the tournament. Play fair, practice BEFORE the lanparty, and if you lose, take it like a man (or woman)!
Section 2. Team Information
2.1 Player Limits - Teams will consist of 5 players, no more and no less. No you cannot be Johnny Badass and play in a team with only 4 people. NOTE: The only exception to this rule is if we kick a player out of the tournament for cheating, or if a player has to leave due to sickness, emergency, or general lameness. In this case we will allow the team to continue throughout the tournament if they wish, but prepare to be slaughtered by the other teams. NO YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO SUBSTITUTE ANYONE IN THEIR PLACE. THIS RULE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.
2.2 Team Formation - Teams can be formed before the party, or at the party, it doesn't matter. There are always people who do not have a team, and it is common practice to form your teams 30 minutes before the tournament starts. However, if you plan to actually do good in the tournament, forming your teams now and actually practicing would be a good plan.
2.3 Substitutions - Players may NOT be substituted at ANY time during the tournament. If your teammates computer burns down, he has the option to switch computers, and continue playing, however he cannot appoint someone to play for him the rest of the tournament. If your teammate has to leave or just plain does not feel like playing anymore, welcome to the world of continuing the tournament with 4 or less people!
2.4 Dropping Out - Teams have the option of dropping out of the tournament at any time while the tournament is going, but what fun is that? At least try!
Section 3. Game Information
3.1 Pre-Game
3.1.1 Preparation - After we get the teams signed up, there will be a time period where I enter the names into the tournament software, and prepare the servers. During this time you should be preparing with your team for the tournament. You should have your computer up and running, and should test it out by going into a Counter-Strike server and making sure it works! The last lanparty I cannot tell you how many people didn't even have the game installed, but they were signed up to play in the tournament. This is totally unacceptable, and if you are not ready by the time we start the tournament, too bad!
3.1.2 Getting Into Server Promptly - Once the match is announced, and I tell you what server you are to be in, you will have approximately 5 minutes to get into the server and be ready to play. If your computer is turned on, this is MORE than enough time to open Counter-Strike and connect to the server. Once again, at the last lanparty it took one team *cough* *GUYS* *cough literally 30 minutes to get into the server. If your team is not in the server, and the other team has been waiting patiently for many minutes, we will make the decision to FORFEIT that game for you. Meaning the other team wins. BE READY AND GET TO YOUR SERVER ON TIME!
3.2 Variables and other info
3.2.1 Official Tournament Config File - Below is the official config file used in the Ghetto Lanparty tournaments. The only thing not shown is the Admin Mod configuration, which has nothing to do with gameplay.
// Use this file to configure your DEDICATED server.
// This config file is executed everytime the server changes levels.

3.2.2 Round Limits - Each HALF will be 12 rounds. Meaning, each team will play 12 rounds as a Terrorist and 12 rounds as a Counter-Terrorist. NOTE: This round number could change due to conditions at the lanparty, if we have a lot of teams we could decrease this number to 8 rounds or less on each side. This is our variable used to control the length of the tournament. Remember, it is only a 12 hour lanparty!
3.2.3 Determining Sides - The team on the top of the bracket will be Terrorist FIRST. Example
since XTR is on top in the bracket, they will be Terrorists FIRST. GL will be Counter-Terrorists, and they will switch after the half is over. This info will be found by going to http://tournament.ghetto.com AT THE LANPARTY. This will of course not work now on the internet, but at the lanparty it will show the tournament status, rules, and other info!
3.2.4 Round Time - Round time will be 3 minutes.
3.2.5 Buy Time - Buy time will be 30 seconds. This is to prevent people sitting in the buy zone and using grenade scripts to toss 40 grenades at the other team, remember to buy your stuff quick!
3.2.6 Freeze Time - Freeze time (the time where you can't move while the round is starting) is 5 seconds.
3.2.7 Flashlights - mp_flashlight is 1, so you may use flashlights.
3.2.8 Fadetoblack - mp_fadetoblack is 1, so when you die your screen will go totally black, and the only thing you will be able to see is the scoreboard.
3.2.9 Friendly Fire - Friendly fire will be ON. This is very important, as you can kill your team very easily if you don't pay attention. This forces your team to know where each other is at (very hard in crowded public servers) and it also forces you to have some organization. It makes the games more realistic, but it does make it a bit harder, so simply PLAN a little more, use the in game voice communication, and don't kill your team!
3.2.10 Friendly Grenade Damage - Friendly grenade damage will be ON. This is part of the friendly fire deal, so this means if you toss an H.E. grenade in de_nuke, and it bounces off a wall and comes back at your team, your gonna damage everyone! Be carefull where you toss your grenades, as your team will get mad if you blow them up.
(Added 03/02/04) 3.2.11 Shield in Version 1.6 - The shield is PROHIBITED AS COUNTER-TERRORIST. If you are caught USING it, you will be booted from the tournament and your team WILL play a man down. If you by some accident buy the shield, get rid of it or sit the round out. If you play the round with the shield and the other team catches you, all it takes is a quick yell up to me, a screen shot taken, and your gone.
3.3 Halftime
3.3.1 Mid-game Break - At the half you will have a few minutes to use the bathroom and talk to your team BRIEFLY should you so choose. This time will only be a couple minutes, just enough time for you to plot the transition from Counter-Terrorist to Terrorist and vice versa. We will be pretty stingy with this halftime if you will, simply because each minute added to the tournament, makes it that much longer.
3.3.2 After Mid-game Break - Once the halftime is over, the server will be sent back to the map that is to be played, and the players will switch sides, for example Counter-Terrorists go to the Terrorists side, and vice versa. Once everyone is ready, the game will go live.
Section 4. Miscellaneous
4.1 Accusations of Cheating - If you or your team believes that the other team is cheating, here is the proper way to address the situation. The second you believe the other team is cheating, COME AND TELL US. That means Arophon, Jimix, or I, the guys in the black shirts that say GHETTO LANPARTY STAFF on the back. That means get out of your chair (the best time do to this would be when you die) and tell one of us. We will then watch over the other team and see for ourselves if there is any foul play going on. There needs to be good cause for you to think that someone is cheating, I.E. someone goes running across the map at 400 miles per hour, EXCESSIVE and IMPOSSIBLE headshots. Now here we come across another fine line, between someone being good and someone cheating, and like I said, we will have to find good evidence of them cheating. Our anti-cheat software will stop a lot of the problems, that and us constantly walking around observing matches.
4.2 Dropped Players
4.2.1 Dropped Players Due to Client Problems - Like in section 2.3, if a player is dropped from the server, and it is within 4 rounds of the start of that HALF (meaning you are in the 4th round or less of that half, so if your team has 2 wins and the other has 1, you would logically be in the 4th round) we will pause the game and wait for the player to come back. Someone will have to announce it to me, and I will set the pausable variable to 1, then anyone will be able to type PAUSE into their console. This will stop the game entirely. We will then wait for that person to come back into the server, and we will unpause the game. That person will miss out on one round, and we feel that is very fair. However, if a person is dropped from the server after 4 round, meaning you are in the 5th round or MORE for that half, the game will go on, and that person will just enter the server whenever he can. We will only pause the game ONCE for each team, so if one of your teammates gets dropped in round 2 and we pause the game, and another of your teammates gets dropped in round 3, thats too bad, the game will continue. We do not have 4 days to do this tournament, so make sure your computer can handle being in a server for more than 5 minutes!
4.2.2 Dropped Players Due to Power or Network Outages - We take every precaution to avoid a power or network outage, but indeed at a lanparty it does happen. The entire network is on backup power, all the client switches and the backbone, and the servers as well. Sometimes we will blow a breaker in the building, and a few client computers will go down, if this is the case, we will set the pausable variable to 1 and have someone pause the game. Even if it is past 4 rounds, if we blow a breaker and members of your team go down, then it's OUR fault for not watching Dr. Amp and it's current usage readings correctly. HOWEVER, if you kick your own power strip and turn your computer off AND it is past the 4 round limit, we will not stop the game, that is your own fault. However if you do kick your power strip and turn off your computer, AND it is under the 4 round limit, AND you have not had 1 pause of the game for your own team, then we will be able to stop the game for you. You see, there are many fine lines that can be crossed here, and decisions will be made by the judge on hand, either Jimix, Arophon, or I. We will be the judge if a power outage deserves a pause of the game. Example: if someone kicks a cord out of Dr. Amp and 4 out of the 5 team members computers are turned off, BUT they have already had their one pause for that half, we will make the decision to pause the game, simply because 5 on 1 does not make for a good match!
4.3 Server Crashes - In the event of a server crash (it has happened before) we will ask the team captains to come up to the Network Operations Center (NOC, doesn't that sound cool) and we will ask you what the score was. We will write this down, start the server back up, and you will simply continue where you left off. Example: your team has 5 wins and the other team has 3, so the total is 8 rounds played. We will start the server back up, and set the mp_maxrounds to 2, so you will play two more rounds for that half. This means it's always a good idea to keep an eye on your teams scores, because when a server crashes, it can become difficult to find out what the current score was. This hardly ever happens, only a few times in many many lanparties, but we must have a plan in case it does happen.
