This lanparty started off rough. I
am a dumbass and scheduled the lanparty for the day after Halloween.
Because of this, our attendance was a bit lower than expected. I'm
sure most people were hungover after a good night of Halloween partying.
I also had a blowout in the big ghetto Step Van and blew the power
steering pump out on the way to the lanparty too.
We did a different set up for the
Counter-Strike tournament and people seemed to like it. We tried
round robin for the first time, and let groups of 4 teams play each
other before placing them into a single elimination bracket. Every
team got to play at least 4 matches this way. It went over well.
We did a throwback tournament of Quake 3
and everyone liked it much better than Quake 4. Jim a.k.a. Arophon
thinks throwback games are where it's at. In the future I see us
having more throwback games rather than pushing the hundreds of new
games that keep coming out. It is too hard to keep up.
I have to give thanks to the following, and I'm sorry
if I forget anyone:
-
Garrick and his friends - for showing up early to
the Civic Center and helping is set up the party, and for running the Halo 3
tourney. Like every time.
-
Chuck - for
running the CS tournament with Jim and being a workhorse like usual.
-
Jarrett and the guys - for helping get the Quake
3 tournament going and keep it running
-
Sharaz Jek - for donating most of the servers and
other equipment from his old DFWLanparty
-
All you random folks who do little things like
throw your trash away or help set up or clean up at the end of the night.
You know who you are.
Party on.
