| Will MugNMouse return to
defend their Counter-Strike 1.6 title? Will Rafik a.k.a. LostCause kick everyone's ass in Quake 4? Will Steven Holt prove once again he has spent the most time learning how to play the Guitar Hero series? We will find out the answers to these questions and more at Ghetto Lanparty 28. I know it's 4 month away, but time flies these days and I want everyone have good advanced notice. Make sure you take off work. Us nerds don't get to hang out very much anymore. I know you can spare one day to gather up in Denton with us. And remember, even though the economy is going to hell, gas prices through the roof-- Ghetto is still only $15! Registration will be open in a few days. In the mean time allow yourself to be content with the fact that we are still here, and still love you, and still want you all to come nerd up with us. :-) |

Help us find a room for Ghetto Lanparty 28!
| Arophon and I have been
searching the Dallas/Fort Worth area for hotels/convention centers/etc.,
really any venue that has a large room in which we could hold Ghetto
Lanparty. It seems to be more difficult than we originally thought.
A place that will let us rent overnight has disqualified many places, but
other than this, we don't really have any other requirements. If you run across any hotels, meeting facilities, abandoned warehouses, ANYTHING, please grab a phone number and send it our way. You can email them to me via SuperCricket@ghettolanparty.com or post up in the Message Board. The Denton Civic Center is ours for November, and for all of 2009 and beyond. We have struck up a deal with the Civic Center that will allow us to pick out dates ahead of time without having to pay everything up front. This way we can finally start reserving dates well into the future without having to pay thousands of dollars all at once. However, if we want to get another Ghetto in before November (we really need to) we have to find a place. I think it will be fun to do one Ghetto in some other random place in D/FW anyway! If you have any ideas, let us know! |

Frequently Asked Questions
**************************************
What is the earliest we can come to the lanparty? Due to setting up the network, tables, etc., we ask that you please don't arrive earlier than 1 PM. People setting up their computers while we are still trying to set up tables is a real pain.
What if I didn't get signed up in time, can I still come? If you realize you haven't signed up, but would still like to come, this is not a problem. You must remember, we give priority to those who DID sign up, so it would be wise to call my cell phone (817-713-7472) to check and see if there is enough room. You will also get a rather large boot in the ass at the door for not signing up. ;-)
What are all the prices for a Ghetto Lanparty? The only required is the $15 entry fee, this covers your seat, power, network, and unlimited drinks. Options include ($5 for half a large 1 topping pizza, $5 entry fee for Counter-Strike tournament, $1.50 cold bottle of Bawls, $.50 misc. candy items)
Where else can I eat if I don't want pizza? There are many different places to eat in Denton. The closest is a Golden Chick next to the Civic Center, for anything else you will have to just drive throughout Denton. We try to keep it so you don't have to leave the Civic Center if you don't want to, by bringing in pizza and lots of drinks.
How do the Counter-Strike tournament, and other tournaments work? Signups for these tournaments are taken AT the lanparty. We will call for them over the PA system. If you don't have a full team, or you want to join a team, simply tell us when we call for signups. Then we can try and get a team formed for you. The Counter-Strike tournament has a $5 per person fee which goes towards the tournament winners prizes. The Battlefield 1942 and any other tournaments are all free for everyone.
What if I don't have the games installed on my computer? Most every game can be procured from our GameFiles server. Instructions on how to do this come on your sheet you get when you come in the door, as well as on the in-lan webpage.
I have another question, do you have the answer? Most likely, message me on AIM via the screen name Cricket414 for the best response. Or if the question is very important call my cellphone at 817-713-7472 any time this weekend, day or night. Just ask for Kyle or SuperCricket or "someone from Ghetto Lanparty" and we can help you out.

I will have this phone on ALL day. If you get lost, give a ring, if you have a question, give a ring, but don't call to shoot the bull, we'll be pretty busy trying to get set up. If you also need to give a relative/parent a phone number for a contact at the lan, you may give them this number as well. :)
Over 200 people are now signed up for the lanparty tomorrow. It should be a pretty good time! I hope all of you nerds, geeks, guys, and gals can make it out tomorrow to hang out with us. See you all in Denton!

The days are ticking down, the signups keep trickling in, and signs are that we will have a pretty nifty party this Saturday. I have been working furiously on the Counter-Strike and Quake 4 servers, so hopefully they will be in line for the party. I have spruced up the DC++ server, and we will have 2 mirrored servers with all the game files you will need. We will have Battlefield 2 servers, original Quake 3, and Counter-Strike:Source running.
I will also have a big projector for us to throw down Halo 2 and Guitar hero on, or for people to just watch a family guy episode or what not. This will be right next to the console tables for those who are opting to bring a TV and Console game setup.
Stay tuned for the final blast of info tomorrow, mainly aimed at all of you newbies. And remember, if you aren't registered, DO SO NOW! It's the only way we will know how many chairs/tables to set up for the event. Also, get your computers clean and tidy, and make sure you don't show up at Ghetto with a virus laden machine. :-)

Monday, January 7th, 2008 - Tournament/Competition List - Discuss On Our Message Board Here
![]()
Alright ladies and gents. Jim a.k.a. Arophon and I are proud to present the official spread of competitions and activities for Ghetto Lanparty 27, which I must also mention is one month away. Keep in mind us staff can only organize so many games for you to play. There are just too many people at Ghetto for us to please everyone, so if you feel like organizing some random tournament in some other game, we will gladly help. You may use our PA system to gather gamers. At any rate, here is what's going down...
| Computer Game Competitions | |
![]() |
5 Man/Woman Counter-Strike v1.6 Format: Double Elimination Entry Fee: $10 per person ($50 per team) Prizes: 1st - $625, 2nd - $250, 3rd - $125 (If 16 playing teams--usually always is.)
Our bread and butter, the tournament we've been doing since day one. Visit this page for the rules and what not. Most all of you have fought in Ghetto Lanparty's CS tournament before, but for those that haven't the rules page will give you a pretty good idea of how it goes down. |
![]() |
Trackmania Nations (Great Racing Game) DOWNLOAD FOR FREE HERE Format: Best Clocked Time... it's a racing game you know Entry Fee: NONE Prizes: To Be Announced (Depends on our sponsors)
This game was created for those llamas who run the Electronic Sports World Cup. However, since it was a game created solely for tournaments, it is FREE TO DOWNLOAD. So all you cheap bastards like me can go download it right now and start playing. It's a pretty simple racing game but it's really fun to play against other people. Learn some of the tracks and come to Ghetto ready to throw down. I downloaded this game while completely drunk at Quakecon in August and learned it in about 5 minutes. Look down, see the left, right, up, and down arrow keys? That's all you need. ;-) |
![]() |
Quake 4 1 vs. 1 Format: One-on-One Single Elimination Entry Fee: NONE Prizes: To Be Announced (Depends on our sponsors)
Quake 4 is still the first person shooter that most of you guys/gals seem to play. We had 20ish players in the last tournament in the Summer. I know some of you want Unreal Tournament 3 or something else, but there are too many of you to please! Anyway, fight some other players in Quake 4 until we burn this game out. Mmkay? |
|
Console Game Competitions (Besides your computer, bring your television, Xbox, Xbox360, PS2, or PS3! Email me for more info SuperCricket@ghettolanparty.com) |
|
![]() |
Halo 2 or 3 (Depends on how many of YOU bring your Xbox or Xbox360) Format: 2 vs 2 Teams - Single Elimination Entry Fee: NONE Prizes: To Be Announced (Depends on our sponsors)
For a while now we have had lots of good Halo console action at the lanparty. My man Garrick usually organizes this at the lanparty, and it really depends on how many folks show up with their consoles. Usually we have 10 or more two-man/woman teams to play. It doesn't matter if you are good or not, it's just fun to play. So if you have a console and TV and want to bring it instead of a computer, feel free! Or bring both! |
![]() |
Guitar Hero 1 or 2 or 3 or Rock Band Format: 1 on 1, or maybe teams of 2, who knows, we'll decide at the party Entry Fee: NONE Prizes: To Be Announced (Depends on our sponsors)
Oh yeah I'm pumped about this one and I suck so incredibly bad at Guitar Hero. Anyway, again this depends on all of you chumps bringing your TVs, consoles, guitars, and what not. Like Halo, this is another gamer-run tournament. You gamers will determine the specifics of this competition at the lanparty on Feb. 2nd. Just make sure you pack your console goodies right next to your computer!
|
Hopefully those 5 games will please the majority of you all. If you have any suggestions or you would like to bitch at Jim and I for any reason, or if you need relationship advice or anything else, feel free to email me (SuperCricket@ghettolanparty.com).
Stay tuned for more as the days count down to Ghetto 27. Go Cowboys.

The difference between 150 and 200 attendees is huge when it comes to the tables, network, and electricity planning we have to do. Ghetto Lanparty is a tough event to put on, so please make sure your name ends up on the ATTENDEE LIST if you plan to join us. A nice Summer vacation has passed, and the Ghetto staff are back at the mother ship preparing for another year of gaming goodness. I took my break very seriously this Summer. After Ghetto Lanparty 26 in June I bought a jetski and a boat, and hit the lake at least twice a week for the past 3 months straight. Arophon went about his flying duties and rock climbed a lot, and the rest of the volunteers went about enjoying the Texas weather.
However Fall finally arrived in North Texas and here we are facing Ghetto Lanparty 27. Hundreds of gamers and nerds alike will converge on the Denton Civic Center In February for our 2008 Winter event. Stay tuned for the opening of registration.
So what happened over the Summer?

Halo 3 came out
and proved the masses of America love console gaming. It's a hell of a
lot easier these days to pull your Xbox360 or PS3 out of the box and stick
in a DVD, than it is to build a good gaming computer and keep it in tip top
shape. The game made $170 milllion in it's first day making it the
biggest entertainment release in history. That's right, it made more
money than any movie release, or anything, ever. However the computer game designers didn't forget about us either. In the next two months we have coming:
Now is the time to blast the dust out of your computer. Do some Fall cleaning. Hit Pricewatch and pick up a cheap video card. There is no reason not to make it out to Ghetto 27 in February and throw down with us. :-) Stay tuned for more, it's good to be back. |

Most likely, call my cellphone at 817-713-7472 any time this weekend, day or night. Just ask for Kyle or SuperCricket or "someone from Ghetto Lanparty" and we can help you out.

Coolermaster Sponsoring Ghetto 26 Next Weekend!
Coolermaster sent us the following picture's worth of goodies for us to give out at Ghetto Lanparty 26 next weekend. It's good to see there are still companies who remember us computer nerds/gamers in the world.

Quake 4 Tournament Details
Next weekend at Ghetto Lanparty 26 we will be hosting a Quake 4 1v1 Tournament! The prizes are as follows:
1st - Coolermaster Case and $40
2nd - Random Schwag and $20
3rd- Random Schwag and $10
Matches will be 15 minutes long. Single elimination. We will be using the newest 1.4.1 patch (just came out 5 days ago) and the following maps:
Galang
Monsoon
A Man Called Sun
Placebo Effect
Phrantic
So we are on target to stuff around 200 folk into the Denton Civic Center as always. It should be a fun time as always, so take a weekend off from the norm and spend $15 to get some good gaming in. What the hell will $15 get you these days anyway? Maybe 5 gallons of gas? That takes my Camaro about 50 miles. So spend your money on something entertaining for once and sign up for Ghetto Lanparty 26!
More news to come soon!

Ghetto Lanparty Seven Weeks Away!
So Ghetto Lanparty 26 is about 7 weeks away, and we already have nearly 70 people signed up. That's not too bad considering it has been six months since our last event. I was worried all of you forgot about us. I suppose I don't give you geeks enough credit.
Anyway stay tuned for our first sponsor announcement this week, among other interesting news.
Message Board Moving:
I will also be moving the message board to our new permanent server in Dallas. Converting the database over is proving more difficult than I thought, so people might be required to re-register. This might not be a bad thing. I will let everyone know soon.

Addendum:
John Hill was the first to e-mail me at something around 9am on Monday. After
his came a slew of others, all the way until the evening (gg Viet ;-) ). So
because John was checking this page well before any normal person would, he
shall get into Ghetto Lanparty 26 for free. Was I drunk when I thought this game
up?
Now as many of you fine Ghetto attendees know, over the past 6 years we have encountered hurtle after hurtle in obtaining good quality corporate sponsorship. Companies which target gamers have slid back their advertising campaigns slowly over the past couple years. The bigger Ghetto Lanparty has grown, the less sponsorship we had. When Ghetto brought in a measly 65 gamers, we had enough donated parts to build an entire computer--shirts, hats, and drinks for almost every attendee. However after bringing 250 people into the Civic Center a couple years back, we could only drum up enough support to get 5 or so t-shirts and 2 cases of Bawls Guarana. What happened?
Perhaps it is the economy, or maybe our poor name
choice of "Ghetto Lanparty" (which we can't seem to shake). Would we have
been better to sell out and change our name so companies would donate neat stuff
to our organization? I know you folks do not come up to Denton just in the
hopes you will walk out with some t-shirts or computer parts, but it sure was
nice when companies wanted to spread the word about their products.
In times like these one always feels he is alone with a problem, but as a lowly lanparty organizer it is my duty to keep up with the times, and the rest of the United States' gaming events.
It seems we aren't the only group that corporate America ditched. In the past 6 years we rode from the flat waters up to the crest of lanparty gaming. We enjoyed the peak, the fad, the time when local television and newspapers were eager to showcase all of us nerds playing games in the same room. Even that dildo Fatality ended up on 60 Minutes II talking about how much of a tool he was (or something to that effect). But by God, somewhere in the CBS vaults there is a few hours of stock footage they filmed at that fateful Ghetto at the Benbrook YMCA!
Over the years many people predicted the demise of events like ours. When broadband internet began to sweep the nation, everyone decided soon lanparties would end. Why pay $15 to bring your computer to a room when you can play over the internet, and not leave your house? Now 6 years later, I think most of you realize how quickly boring games can get when playing online with people you don't know. After seeing how unprepared most of your computer's are when arriving at a Ghetto Lanparty, I realize an event like ours may be one of the few times a year you actually sit down and get to play games.
So knowing we are all getting older with less and less time to play, somehow gives Arophon and I the motivation to keep Ghetto Lanparty alive.
So to Creative Labs, Zboard, and EQ Energy Tablets, and ATI, I salute you for being the only recent entities willing to help us out (at Ghetto Lanparty 25 this past October). These companies had no problem sponsoring an event like ours with such a controversial name, and I thank them.
However, with Ghetto Lanparty 26 a little over two months away, I must begin the hunt again. For those who just read through my verbose whiskey induced dribble, a little game to get free admission to Ghetto Lanparty 26. The first person to email me and tell me the first sponsor we announced for Ghetto Lanparty 25 will get into Ghetto Lanparty 26 in June for free. SuperCricket@ghettolanparty.com :)
So now I will contact 30+ companies to see who still cares about us real gamers in the world. I'll let you all know how it pans out. Happy Easter folks! Don't forget to sign up for Ghetto Lanparty 26!

I wanted
to start 2007 off right and help some folks out who aren't on vacation like me,
who can't wake up late and cruise the sunny days away in the Camaro. I'm
sure most of you have a friend, relative, or someone else you know over in Iraq
right now. Suspending any political views on the war, keep in mind they
are fighting for us whether you are in favor of the war or not.
What you can do:
Email me (SuperCricket@ghettolanparty.com) if you know a Ghetto attendee, or have a friend, family member, or someone else you know in the war.
Email me if you want to donate some old movies, games, or anything for care packages. These items can be thrown in the mail and sent to my house, or I will even pick them up.
Once I have gathered a list of servicemen/women we want to send a package too, I will organize the packages and Ghetto will foot the shipping bill.
Now, a second friend close to the Ghetto community (first being Zack Rhodes a.k.a. Decoy) is having a stay in the hell of Iraq. Nathan McWhorter was once a Counter-Strike playing nerd I went to high school with, and who attended Ghetto since its inception at Arophon's airport hangar in the year 2000. He is still a Counter-Strike playing nerd, but now the mother [expletive deleted] shooting back are real, and he can't drop the console down and type 'exit' when he feels like it. Nathan's best friend Holly has already helped Nathan out by sending him things, but I figured with nearly 2,000 email addresses in our Ghetto mailing list, we could drum up enough support for others fighting for us.
While there is not much we can do from D/FW, we can make things a little better for the men and women out there. Many of the troops have some downtime, and the bases have DVD players and laptops. Because of this, Nathan told me movies and random games are good items to send. I'm personally sending our stash of EQ energy tablets out there. Nathan said the long hours are hard, worse than the zombie like feeling after a Ghetto Lanparty. While some troops are supplied with Red Bull, his is not, so hopefully these caffeinated tablets will help out.
Want to donate a few things but not sure what items would be good to send?
Here is a list I borrowed from http://adoptaplatoon.org.
Want to donate some items you have?
Email me (SuperCricket@ghettolanparty.com) and I will give you my home mailing address and/or setup a way you can drop it off or have me pick it up.
Have someone overseas you would like to get a package sent to?
Email me (SuperCricket@ghettolanparty.com) and we will get it set up.
Lastly, and contrary to popular belief, Ghetto Lanparty has not fallen by the wayside. After over 6 years the Ghetto staff have finally reached old fogey status, and we have all been pretty busy with school, work, and whatever else makes up our daily lives. Personally, I never have enough hours in a day to get the things done that I want.
However, it is our service to the North Texas gaming community that we keep on trucking so all of us nerds can have our 4 time a year vacations. We will shoot for 4 events in 2007, and are trying to lock the dates in right now, so everyone can attempt to plan ahead. Can you believe it, a calendar of events for an entire year? Seems pretty un-Ghetto, but with the staff being so busy, an organized schedule is essential.
Hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Years eve, but if not, don't worry about it. Its 2007 now folks!

FIRST, DON'T FORGET A POWER STRIP! People forget this item a lot, and all we run to the table is an extension cord. We don't have the money to buy 250 power strips, so don't forget! Also go through the checklist below of everything else to bring, you'd be surprised what you might be forgetting. :)
**************************************
Security and Check-in Procedure
**************************************
At this lanparty we are trying to keep the event tight as a drum. No one is allowed in the public park next to the Civic Center after 10, and no one should be out around random parts outside the building. We have a dedicated security team for this event to keep the world in order.
When you arrive at the Civic Center, please come and check in at the front desk. You will receive a wristband to prove you gave us your small entrance fee of $15. We do hand checks throughout the night, and have embarrassed many gamers over the past lanparties who have tried to pull one over on us. We make hardly any profit at these events, and many times we loose money, so please help us out.

Most
of you Ghetto goers are aware of
Zboard and their
great invention for the gaming community. Their multifunction
keyboards have many different inserts depending on what game you want to
play. Their special keys make it easy to play whatever game, and in
seconds you can pop the insert out and go back to the standard 101 key
qwerty setup. |
![]() Zboard is giving us a keyboard with the Battlefield 2 keyset (pictured at right). Zboard also informs me that a Fang game pad will be sent. Arophon and I haven't quite decided how to give out these prizes. Obviously the most appropriate winner would be a Battlefield 2 player, but I'm not sure what type of competition would be aimed at the BF2 players. If you have any input, send it our way via the Ghetto Message Board (which you should all post at anyway). |

Quakecon is stealing the spotlight for all of August, so we voted to push Ghetto 25 back into early October. Stay tuned for the exact date announcement and details on registration. Also keep an eye out for our next big sponsor announcement. Hope everyone is having a good summer. Party on. |

Ghetto Lanparty 24 almost didn't happen on May 27th like we originally planned. I had some personal problems going on, and lost my zest for Ghetto Lanparty in the weeks before Ghetto 24. Because of this, I didn't announce registration for Ghetto 24 until a little over a week before the lanparty! When only around 70 computer gamers and 30 or so other spectators and console gamers showed up, we were not surprised. In fact, we were happy with the turnout since the notice was so late.
I lost around $400 on this lanparty, but honestly I had a lot of fun. Since the turnout was low, the setup and cleanup was easy, especially with the help we had. The Counter-Strike tournament went smooth, and although it was a subdued lanparty, most everyone had a good time.
I have to give thanks to the following, I'm sorry if I forget anyone:
Anyway, we learned a lot from this lanparty. We see our areas for improvement, and rest assured Ghetto 25 will be our strongest improvement in quite some time.
Thanks to those who came out to Ghetto 24. Get ready for our 6 year anniversary and Ghetto 25. The date announcement will be soon...

Most likely, call my cellphone at 817-713-7472 any time this weekend, day or night. Just ask for Kyle or SuperCricket or "someone from Ghetto Lanparty" and we can help you out.
**************************************
CONTACT INFO

I will have this phone on ALL day. If you get lost, give a ring, if you have a question, give a ring, but don't call to shoot the bull, we'll be pretty busy trying to get set up. If you also need to give a relative/parent a phone number for a contact at the lan, you may give them this number as well. :)
So hopefully the gaming is a little smoother this time around for the BF2 and CS:S folks out there. See you all at the lan!

Ghetto Lanparty Summer Event Saturday, May 27th, 2006 - 1:00PM - 7:00AM Denton Civic Center, Denton, Texas (Directions)
Now some of you reading this may be asking a very good question. Hopefully you are wondering why this is the first mention of our Ghetto Summer Event on this webpage. Due to my own personal problems which are not interesting enough to be repeated, I shoved Ghetto onto the back burner the past 3 weeks. It is also worth noting that we are rapidly approaching our 6 year anniversary since Jimix, Arophon, and I started Ghetto Lanparty. At points I have felt burned out and ready to give up, but I look at neat pictures like the one to the right and they make me feel better.
So at any rate, it is very important that we rush registration for this lanparty. Please help us to spread the word quickly about our Summer event. The Civic Center is so booked we aren't exactly sure when the next Ghetto will be after this May 27th event, so come on out and have some fun with us.

Ghetto Spring Event ONE WEEK OUT!
Yes indeed our Spring event is rapidly approaching. Our registration numbers are looking great, it should be a good event. Our next event will be in the Summertime, so make sure you come on out next weekend. We are working on the giant ass SWAT van to haul all of our equipment to Ghetto, so that should make our setup a little easier.
Counter-Strike Team Signups

Click Here to register your team for the $1000 Counter-Strike tournament and hold a spot in the special tournament section at the lanparty. The tournament section is a seperate part of the network dedicated to tournament players and designed to give low ping and low lag for everyone.
So far the following teams have claimed a spot in the tournament section:
|
Battlefield 2 Tournament/Competition
|
Battlefield 2 tournament is a go for next weekend.
|
![]() |
So since there isn't a way for us to tell how much interest there will be in Battlefield 2, we aren't really going to have an actual "tournament" this lanparty. Instead we are proposing an impromptu competition. Maybe an 8 on 8 battle that could last an hour or two? Maybe give out $10 to each person on the winning team?
Of course if we have more than 16 people interested, we could have a small tournament, but I think a long drawn out war between two teams would be more fun.
More info the come at the lanparty. |
Halo 2 Tournament

Halo 2 tournament is a go for next weekend. |

It's official, the Halo 2 tournament will happen via Xbox consoles at this lanparty. My friend Ricky will be running the tournament, and so far we have 3 confirmed Xbox/TV setups we can use. If you are planning on bringing one, or would like to bring one, please email me (supercricket@ghettolanparty.com) or catch me on AIM via "Cricket414."
Prizes are TBA |
Tekken Tag Tournament
|
Tekken tournament on hold until further notice. |
![]() |
The staff member Ian a.k.a. BunnyFooFoo who was to organize this tournament has not been online or spoken to me in around 2 months, so I am not sure this competition will happen. If I find something out in the next week you all will be the first to know.
The tournament at the January Ghetto Lanparty was a big hit, with 15+ people participating. |
Quake 4 Tournament
|
NO Quake 4 tourmament at this lanparty. |
|
Due to technical problems, we wont be able to run a Quake 4 tournament at this lanparty. We simply don't have a good way for people to get the game from us, and we know hardly any of you cheap asses have actually purchased the game.
Maybe at the summer event. |

Gigabit Core Switch
(4 Gigabit Connected Spokes At This Lanparty!)
|
|
Our old buddy
JT a.k.a. Drother purchased a couple switches that we are going to use at
the March 18th Ghetto Spring Event. One is a 24 port full gigabit
Dell, and the other is a Dell client switch. This means 4 of the spokes (8 table sections) at this Ghetto will have full gigabit uplinks to the network. I will let everyone know the location of these sections sometime before the lanparty. The old Cisco Godfather switch will be trunked into the new one and will provice access for the special tournament section discussed above. |
That is all for now, spread the word about this lanparty and lets fill the place up! More frequent news updates will occur as the event gets closer, keep your eyes on your mailbox and here!

Ghetto Lanparty Spring Event 2006 a.k.a. Ghetto Lanparty 23
Saturday, March 18th, 2006 1:00PM - Sunday 7:00AM
Denton Civic Center, Denton, Texas
*************************************************************
Registration Information
*************************************************************
Registration will open this Sunday (January 22nd), giving us 8 exact weeks until the event.
Capacity will be 300 attendees as usual, although we still have yet to hit that mark. We did have 250 gamers at Ghetto 17 back in the day though. The success of the lanparty depends on all of you great gamers, so lets pack the house. We are the largest frequent gaming event in all of Texas. Let's keep showing everyone how we get er done.
*************************************************************
$1000 Counter-Strike Tournament (Important Info)
*************************************************************
Yes it finally happened, the Counter-Strike tournament is getting an overdue upgrade.
Changes:
*** Entry fee will be $10 per person instead of $5
*** $1000 total payout ($625 1st place, $250 2nd place, $125 3rd place)
*** 16 teams will be needed for the $1000 payout, Ghetto Lanparty will be pitching in the extra $200 to finish the pot, since 16 teams * 5 people per team is only $800.
*** Priority will be given to the first 16 teams to register ONLINE. Stay tuned on how to do this and make sure your team has a spot in the tournament.
*** We will have a separate section of the lanparty area for those players who are mainly interested in the tournament. It will have a different network setup in order to give the lowest latency and no lagouts during the tournament. When you register your team online, you will be guaranteed a spot in this section.
Keep your eyes on the main page and in your inbox for more info!
*************************************************************
Battlefield 2 Tournament
*************************************************************
We are going to attempt a small Battlefield 2 tournament. It will likely run SIMULTANEOUS to the Counter-Strike tournament, so don't plan on being able to play in both tournaments.
At the moment we are talking about 6 man teams on very small maps. Also it will probably be a round robin type tournament (every team plays every other team once) unless we have a high number of teams.
Each team will be set up with their own Ventrilo voice chat channel.
Prizes To Be Announced!
*************************************************************
Tekken 5 Tournament
*************************************************************
Due to the success of the Tekken 5 tournament at our January lanparty, we are doing it again! Staff member Ian a.k.a. BunnyFooFoo will be handling this. It will be on the Playstation2 again, and we should have a little better area set up for the tournament rather than in the catacombs of the Civic Center like last time.
*************************************************************
Other Misc. Tournaments
*************************************************************
Aside from the Counter-Strike, Battlefield 2, and Tekken 5, we are going to try for a single person first person shooter, maybe Quake 4 if we can get the bugs worked out. We might also do a 2 Man Rocket Arena tournament again since everyone always seems to enjoy it.
My console gaming friends are also rattling my cage about a Halo 2 tournament, so look for news of that as well.
*************************************************************

Look below this news post or click the PREVIOUS LANS link on the navigation.
We have brackets for all 3 tournaments up, pictures, a nice little blurb I wrote about the great lanparty, and Jimmy Hofffa.
*************************************************************

Ghetto Lanparty 22 was a great lanparty. Even though our van full of equipment didn't arrive at the Civic Center until 1PM, we still somehow got the event open to the public just a little after 2PM. All of you attendees were awesome, the atmosphere was great, the tournaments went off without a hitch. TJ handled the giant Counter-Strike tournament, me the Rocket Arena 3 tournament, and Ian the Tekken 5 tournament.
We had 4 televisions with Halo 2 going downstairs which was the coolest thing I had ever seen. I jumped in for one match with my 3 friends, and got our ASSESS handed to us by some other Halo 2 players. At the next lanparty we WILL have those 4 TVs set back up with Halo 2. We are a gaming event, not just a lanparty, I say we bring the consoles out too. Tekken 5 battles were going on by the check-in desk upstairs, people playing Quake 4, Unreal Tournament 2004, BF1942, Quake 3, Rocket Arena 3, and all kinds of other random games.
The Counter-Strike teams all seemed really professional. It is amazing how far along some of these teams have come over the years. Since we have been around for 5+ years now, we are all getting old together and it is interesting watching teams progress. Rather than the annoying bastard kids pissing us off, this tournament was the first time we felt like we had a big group of hardcore players. I thought the CS tournament was starting to become the bane of Ghetto Lanparty, but instead after this even Arophon and I agreed it is time to spruce it up. Can you say more prize money?
Thanks to all of you for making the lanparty great, it has given the staff a renewed enthusiasm and a ton of new ideas we are going to bring to the event.
Thanks to Antics and Haze for helping us clean up after the lanparty, and to Izzo and his brother and everyone else who came a little early to help us set the room up.
For Ghetto 23 look for a $1000 cash prize Counter-Strike tournament, BF2 tournament, Halo 2, possibly Tekken 5, and more.
This was THE lan we needed to start off 2006. Hope everyone had a good time. You guys all rock.

Security and Check-in Procedure
**************************************
At this lanparty we are trying to keep the event tight as a drum. No one is allowed in the park next to the Civic Center after 10, and no one should be out around random parts outside the building. We have a dedicated security team for this event to keep the world in order.
When you arrive at the Civic Center, please come and check in at the front desk. Your hand will be stamped proving you have given us your measly $15. We do hand checks throughout the night, and have embarrassed many gamers over the past lanparties who have tried to pull one over on us. We don't make any money on these events, and many times we loose money, so please help us out.

Problems we fixed since Ghetto 21 in November
**************************************
Battlefield 2 black screens
Counter-Strike: Source timeouts
Due to some poor network setup by yours truly, everyone at Ghetto 21 in November had major trouble trying to play the games they liked, mainly Battlefield 2 and Counter-Strike: Source. After analyzing packets and studying the network, I found the problem rested in the redundant DNS servers. The two servers were setup to keep the network running should one crash, however they were throwing client machines into a loop when trying to run these two games. The problem seems to have been fixed on the test network here at Ghetto Headquarters, so lets try these games again!
**************************************
Tournaments at Ghetto Lanparty 22
**************************************
We will have two official tournaments:
* Counter-Strike 5 Man (Cash Prize)
* Rocket Arena 3 (2 man) (Prizes TBA)
We will also host a couple other random competitions, and will be trying to coax
you stubborn S.O.B.s into playing some Battlefield 2 with us. We will have the
Battlefield 2 files on hand so you can easily install the game at the lanparty.
**************************************
The Registered Attendees List
**************************************
If you didn't sign up and appear on the registered list, you can still come to the lanparty, although we frown on not signing up, because it surprises us. However, we will still let you in as long as we have room. If your worried about making the drive, call my cellphone at 817/713-7472 to make sure we still have seats. We have NEVER had to turn anyone away!

Most likely, call my cellphone at 817-713-7472 any time this weekend, day or night. Just ask for Kyle or SuperCricket or "someone from Ghetto Lanparty" and we can help you out.
**************************************
CONTACT INFO
**************************************
To call me, SuperCricket, a.k.a. Kyle, call
817/713-7472 and ask for Kyle or SuperCricket
I will have this phone on ALL day. If you get lost, give a ring, if you have a question, give a ring, but don't call to shoot the bull, we'll be pretty busy trying to get set up. If you also need to give a relative/parent a phone number for a contact at the lan, you may give them this number as well. :)
So hopefully the gaming is a little smoother this time around for the BF2 and CS:S folks out there. See you all at the lan!

This Saturday!
So I've been working on the new ghetto van <---- out in the shop and also doing a lot of server work. All of the copies of Windows 2003 Server expired on the 10 servers after the November lanparty, so that is why I was unable to get stats from the games for everyone.
Anyway, since registration has only been running a month, we are a little behind on what we should be for signups. If you are not registered for Ghetto 22, please sign up now! We need to get an idea of how many tables to setup, drinks to buy, etc. etc.
More to come soon...

You will be given a badge that hangs around your neck that tells us whether you are an attendee with a computer spot, or just someone spectating the event. You MUST wear this badge the entire night, you will be asked who you are and if you have paid if you do not.
**************************************
Yes the Civic Center Gets Cold!
**************************************
The number one complaint about our lanparty, is how cold the building can get later in the night. The problem lies, in that the air conditioning is controlled by computers at the Denton Government building, so they can't be changed from at the Civic Center. Because of this, it can feel like winter in the building sometimes, so wear shorts only if you are fully insane. A smart move would be to bring a blanket, sleeping bag, light jacket, etc. Don't feel lame walking in with a full comforter into the building when it is 105 outside, you will thank us later in the night.

D/FW, Texas - For immediate release, Ghetto Lanparty is proud
to announce Ghetto Lanparty 21 is on the books and scheduled for
November 5th, 2005! Texas' largest
frequent gaming event will be back in action following a great event we
had back in June. This next event promises to be even better, with
more contests, better prizes, network and server upgrades, and more. Lost Cause Quake 4 Shootout - First off, a quick primer should be given on Rafik Bryant a.k.a. Lost Cause. He first came to us many Ghetto Lanparties ago, and has been coming to our events off and on for quite some time. He has journeyed to Quakecon and competed in their touraments, along with many other gaming events in Texas. He is simply put, freaking good at just about any first person shooter that he gets his hand on. Rafik wanted to bring more single player FPS gamers out to Ghetto, along with some more action to the lanparty, so he introduced this idea to us. Details:
Registration For Ghetto Lanparty 21 - Registration will open Friday, September 9th, 2005 at 6 PM. Spread the word about the next event! That's all for now, hope everyone is having a good summer. |

No one is allowed in the park next to the Civic Center after 10, and no one should be out around random parts outside the building. We have a dedicated security team for this event to keep the world in order.
When you arrive at the Civic Center, please come and check in at the front desk.

Directions to the Denton Civic Center!

Directions can also be found at the INFO section of the website under the "Info and Directions to the Denton Civic Center" section.

Most likely, call my cellphone at 817-713-7472 any time this weekend, day or night. Just ask for Kyle or SuperCricket or "someone from Ghetto Lanparty" and we can help you out.
**************************************

To call me, SuperCricket, a.k.a. Kyle, call
817/713-7472 and ask for Kyle or SuperCricket
I will have this phone on ALL day. If you get lost, give a ring, if you have a question, give a ring, but don't call to shoot the bull, we'll be pretty busy trying to get set up. If you also need to give a relative/parent a phone number for a contact at the lan, you may give them this number as well. :)
So that's all I can think of right now. With over 260 people signed up right now, we should fill the house. And remember, play some Quake 3 at the lanparty... or die! Don't forget Battlefield 2 Demo as too! See you at the party!

Ghetto Lanparty 20 - One Week Out! Saturday June 18th, 2005 2:00 PM - Sunday 7:00 AM Denton Civic Center, Denton, Texas (Directions Page) As I write this, we are one week away from the first Ghetto Lanparty of 2005. It's also our 20th public lanparty, and our 5 year anniversary too! With over 220 people signed up right now, it should be a good event. Be sure to remind everyone of the lanparty, and tell people to sign up if they haven't yet done so.
The 5 Man Counter-Strike tournament will happen like always. We will still be forced to use the hacked Counter-Strike version that you must install. This is due to Steam needing an internet connection, something we still don't have the luxury of at the Denton Civic Center. Side note: There is an internet connection to the building, one we may be able to procure at a future Ghetto Lanparty. Visit the Counter-Strike Rules page for any questions you may have about the tournament. If you have any other questions, email me or contact me on AIM with the screen name Cricket414.
Food & Drinks: We will have the same $5 half of a large pizza delivered out to the lanparty as always. Likely Dominoes pizza this time around. We will also have drinks for the attendees, free as always, and Bawls Guarana beverages for $1.50 a piece.
Other Games & Tournaments: While Ghetto is not officially sanctioning any other tournaments for this lanparty, we are encouraging the attendees to play different games. Branch out, it will be fun. To aid in this, we will be running servers for as many multiplayer games as we can, and will have the Gamefiles server up and running full steam so you can get the game and latest patches easier. If you have a game you want to play, come let us know in the NOC. We will announce it to everyone, let them know where they can get the game, and tell them where they can play. Whether it's a first person shooter, racing game, RTS, or Microsoft Hearts, we want you guys to be able to play it easier, get games going faster, and have more fun doing it.
Jason From Dallas Arcade: Jason from Dallas Arcade will be coming back to GL20 with some friends. You may remember him from the past couple Civic Center lanparties. Jason brought pinball machines we had setup in the main room. At this lanparty he will be bringing some pinball machines, video games, and some console games for everyone to play; and all of them free of course.

Ghetto's Single Sponsor:
Electricity, Lots of It: Tj a.k.a. Drkdth and I ventured to the Civic Center last week to assess the electrical power situation since their renovations. What we found was pleasing, they actually rebuilt the place right; and aside from normal Government operations did not skimp on cost. We have just over 600 amps that can flow from 220 volt outlets in the main room, and a good 400 or so more from regular 110 volt outlets. The 1000ish amps of power to draw from in the building means we shouldn't have to worry much about the power for this lanparty.
Random Network Blip: One "spoke" of the lanparty will have a 1000 megabit (125 megabyte) connection to the backbone of the internet. This is the first test of our 1 gigabit switches we started to buy last year. This lanparty will have the most strenuous network monitoring of any Ghetto. We want to analyze the flow of data around the network, the latency in games, and the speed you the clients get when gaming or downloading files. I expect full reports from people during and after the lanparty on how the network performs. If you want to sit on the spoke with 10 times more backbone bandwidth than the others, sit on the spoke to the left when you first walk in the doors. Heavy file sharers and downloaders should sit here.
2 Weeks Out: The lanparty is getting close! Get ready, take off work, make sure everyone you know is informed about this lanparty. If we dont have 200ish paying attendees we won't break even, and this event would spell the end of Ghetto Lanparty. Get er done.

Real Time Strategy Gaming: I received an email yesterday informing me of Ghetto's lack of support for you Real Time Strategy gamers out there. It's not that we don't support you, it's just that I myself don't have any of the games on the Fileserver, and time doesn't allow us to easily organize games.
Click into this message board thread. If someone wants to help us out and organize some RTS games, that would be great. Post up what games you want to play, someone decide to lead it, and we will help you out. We can give you easy access to the PA system, we can easily help you get a coordinated game going at Ghetto. I know with 200 gamers in the room, it is tough to find someone that wants to play the same game as you. This is one thing we want to change in the future.

Yellow Light Ghetto Lanparty 20 is in the works: looking at dates for Denton in May. |
4/15/05 - 9:00 PM We are all better than you. To all of those going to the 6,000 person Quakecon lanparty in August, let's get er done! The biggest, best, FREE, oldest lanparty in the damn world. The CPL is like 10 guys in a basement compared to Quakecon. You still might have time to sign up, but after 45 minutes 2,100 people had signed up. *If the Ghetto internet CS server times out or says it's not responding* My ISP hands out a new IP address every few days. Whenever this happens just re-add the "ghetto.servebeer.com" to your favorites list. The server is always on, and the internet connection never dies, so if you don't see the server, it's likely the IP got changed. If you have XFire add me, SuperCricket to your list.
To gain more important knowledge relating to the online Ghetto Lanparty CS server, enter the forum thread here. Relating to Ghetto Lanparty 20 in May: Negotiations are still being made with the Denton Civic Center in regards to finding an appropriate date. The Civic Center has not even officially opened yet, so progress is slow. We are taking into account high school finals, graduation, college finals, mothers day, and any other random event that might occur during that month in order to find the best date for everyone. When we know something, the world will know with us. Stay tuned. |

Ghetto
Lanparty 20 - Ghetto's 5 Year Anniversary Yes after a nice 3 month break, I started hearing grumblings from people reminding us that we still run Ghetto Lanparty. After going $600+ into the hole between me and TJ for the December lan, we haven't been in a huge hurry to get things back onto the road again. But things never change, once Ghetto always Ghetto, and crappy lans haven't stopped us in the past 5 years, so we might as well keep on truckin. In two months it will be May, 5 years since the first public Ghetto Lanparty. I feel old just thinking about it, but it's time to revive Ghetto, and I figure what better time than in the month of our 5 year anniversary. So to those who are just joining Ghetto, those who walked into the airport hangar for Ghetto Lanparty 1 five years ago, and everyone in between... get ready. Ghetto will live again. The plans are in the works. |

************************************** Statement from SuperCricket ************************************** Guys and gals, I don't mix my words. This is going to be the hardest lanparty the staff has ever attempted to put on. The power just isn't in the YMCA, they don't have tables or chairs, anything. We are attempting to stuff well over 200 computers into a room designed only to play basketball in. The fact that we have spent $1020 to rent two generators and $850 to rent tables and chairs so far should speak for itself.
I just want to ask all of you to bare with us at this tough lan. Hopefully in the next two months the Civic Center will be finished like they planned, and we can return to normal. In the mean time, we are having the last lanparty of the year in Benbrook, so let's get er done. I can honestly tell you all this is the hardest I've ever worked on the logistics of a Ghetto Lanparty. I've got schematics coming out of my ears, routes for emergency power should we have outages, and more.
Anyway, I just want you all to know that your $15 is going towards lot of high bills for this lanparty. Let's do this thing right and see if we can keep from burning the building down. See you all soon!

Ghetto Lanparty 19 - 3 Days Out! |
| Ghetto Lanparty 19:
Return of the Nerds December 18th-19th, 2004 Benbrook YMCA, Benbrook, Texas Soon
enough a couple hundred nerds will storm the Benbrook YMCA, and the last
Ghetto Lanparty of 2004 will happen. It's been a rough year, a lot of
venue changing, and a lot of hell. More problems and memories than I
can shake a stick at. I've seen so many new faces this year, but we
still have our old dedicated following as well. All of you folks are
like family that I know, but only see a few times a year.We had 250 attendees in the Civic Center this year, with the power never breaking a sweat. I can't wait until early 2005 when the Civic Center renovations are done and we can return. For now, we are heading back to the old YMCA. Just a forewarning, please bare with us, it's going to be the hardest lan for us staff to put on EVER. 200 client network and infrastructure setup in around an hour? Yeah you get the picture. Anyway, Thursday night or Friday morning will have this page showing everything you need to know about this lanparty, including PICTURES OF THE ACTUAL ROADS TO GET YOU TO THE YMCA! Hopefully less people will call me lost this way. Stay tuned and get signed up if you aren't already! |

Just some quick details on the upcoming lanparty. At this point there will be one major tournament, due to the time constraints at this lanparty. As you may know, instead of starting as the usual 2PM like we were able to at the Civic Center, we will be opening the doors at 7PM at the YMCA. This rules out the possibility of a second large tournament. If you want that kind of action, the CPL is down the road... :)

Half-Life 2 Giveaway at Ghetto Lanparty 19! |
|
| Ghetto Lanparty 19:
Return of the Nerds December 18th-19th, 2004 Benbrook YMCA, Benbrook, Texas For those
who live in the dark, Valve software released Half-Life 2 just a couple days
ago. It has been 6 years since the original Half-Life came out, a long
time in the making. This is one game my cheap ass will definitely give
my $60 towards. PCGamer gave it the highest review of any game in
their history, and so have many others.I know drkdth and everyone else I have spoken to about the game has said nothing but good. It will likely consume my life for the next month or two once I go buy it. Because the game is so great, I figured it would make a decent prize to give out. And what better way to give out a copy of Half-Life 2 then to make people compete for it on the Half-Life one platform. Details are not finalized yet, but we will likely stuff as many people as we can into a Half-Life deathmatch server, likely on the map CROSSFIRE. Stay tuned here for more details as Ghetto Lanparty 19 gets closer. Don't forget to sign up! |

So you have probably been wondering why the land of Ghetto has been so quiet lately. That is because the Ghetto staff and many other Ghetto goers have been at Quakecon this past week. For those who don't know, Quakecon is a 3,000 person gaming event, the biggest in the USA, held in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. This year it was in Grapevine, so for all of you in the D/FW area, I laugh at you for not being there. Not only is it a 3,000 person lanparty, but it's FREE due to the sponsors, and it's also 4 days long.
We were also building our Fishtank computer. Jason a.k.a. Sirzason was interviewed by G4TechTV, so watch the show Pulse on Monday and listen to his interview. As soon as I get my life back in order, I promise GL17, GL18, and our Quakecon trip coverage will be posted, as well as what our plans our for the next Ghetto lanparties this year. Here are a couple pictures to wet your appetite.

Yes that is my computer, yes it is floating in mineral oil, yes that is a home air conditioner, and yes that is the computer I am typing this on right now. :)

Alright folks, so Ghetto Lanparty is finally becoming legal, turning 18, our 18th public lanparty. As many of you know, we have only one tournament on the books, Counter-Strike. Battlefield Vietnam was cancelled when GhettoCon was, due to a lack of time, along with the Quake 3 tournament.
This is going to be our last lanparty for a good few months, maybe up until winter time. The Civic Center is getting torn apart for a while, so we will have to find a new home. Because of this, we wanted to have a lanparty where we just GAMED. I remember the days of DFW Lanparty out in Dallas where we would just go and play games all night, not worrying about playing in a tournament for a few dollars. At points in this lanparty we are going to turn off the Fileserver, and try to get you tokers to play some damn games, and some different games by God.
I want to see some people branch out from the standard Counter-Strike. Load up some Quake 3, Battlefield Vietnam, Unreal Tournament 2004, HALO, hell even some Motorcross Madness 2! It's nice to play a 7 year old game that looks like it's rendered in the Quake 1 engine, but have you seen how beautiful and fun NEW games are?
To those of you who show up for the Counter-Strike tournament, and leave 5 minutes after you loose, I still can't understand that logic. Stick around and play some games for a while, don't be scared to be up past your bedtime. :)
At any rate, the staff is going to be trying to have a good ole time playing games since this is our last lanparty for the summer. Join us, and help us remember what Ghetto Lanparty used to be!
